Macerich announced on Wednesday that Primark and Zara will join Kings Plaza in Brooklyn.
Primark will anchor Kings Plaza with a three-level store on the north half of the building, and Zara will open a two-level store adjacent to the mall entrance. Zara’s Kings Plaza store will also be its first Brooklyn retail location. In addition to the retailers joining the mall, the Sears store will close in mid-September.
Construction on Kings Plaza is set to begin in early 2017. The mall redevelopment will include a new Flatbush Avenue entrance with a sweeping, four-level glass curtain, new elevators and escalators, and façade and exterior improvements.
Macerich acquired Kings Plaza at the end of 2012. Since the acquisition, the mall added several new retailers including Michael Kors, Vince Camuto, Adidas, American Eagle plus Aerie, Footlocker with House of Hoops, Fossil and Solstice among others. Macy’s and Best Buy currently anchor Kings Plaza.
Irish clothing retailer Primark opened its first-ever US store in the Burnham Building in Downtown Boston in 2015. The retailer operates stores at King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania, Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury, CT, and Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ, and plans to open stores at Willow Grove Mall in Willow Grove, PA in July, South Shore Plaza in Braintree, MA, Staten Island Mall in New York City and Burlington Mall in Burlington, MA. Primark operates over 300 stores in 11 countries.
Though Kings Plaza is the first Brooklyn location for Zara, the retailer operates eight stores in Manhattan. Today, Zara operates 74 stores in over 50 cities.
