QVC announced on Monday the opening of its first West Coast distribution center in Ontario, California. The company celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and donations to local chapters of American Heart Association and the United Way.

The Ontario distribution center is expected to accommodate 20 percent of QVC’s total US shipments including fashion and beauty items and big ticket items like televisions, computers and house wares. The 1 million-square-foot facility is expected to bring 500 new jobs to Ontario by 2018 and an additional 500 by 2020.

"We are excited that QVC selected our community as the home for its newest distribution center and know many of our residents look forward to joining the QVC family," said Ontario Mayor Paul Leon. "The City of Ontario holds our partnerships with forward-thinking companies like QVC in high esteem, as through them come great benefits for our city's economy, culture and people."

The new distribution center joins QVC’s four facilities in Suffolk, Virginia; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and Florence, South Carolina. The West Chester, PA-based company has shipped more than 1.8 billion packages in the US since it was founded in 1986.
