Sam Edelman and Skechers open at Westfield World Trade Center

Published
Aug 16, 2016

Westfield World Trade Center officially opened on Tuesday housing over 100 fashion, beauty, lifestyle and technology brands including Under Armour, H&M, Cos and & Other Stories, Kate Spade, and John Varvatos. Brands Sam Edelman, Skechers, Turnbull & Asser and Kinetic Commerce, a partnership between Kinetic Café and The Aldo Group, also opened today as part of the development’s grand opening.

“The new shopping district at One World Trade Center is the place to be – gorgeous, massive and spectacular, it’s one of the biggest retail openings in the United States this decade,” said Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS. “The center’s new stores read like a who’s who list of iconic global brands – and we’re thrilled to take part in this huge retail phenomenon.”

The Skechers store at Westfield WTC is the brand’s first Lower Manhattan retail location, and it features black granite-tiled floors, large-scale graphics, state-of-the-art audio/video presentations and LED-lit shelves. The Manhattan Beach, California-based brand’s new location is one of over 1,600 Skechers stores that are expected to be open by the year’s end.

Sam Edelman occupies 2,046 square feet of Westfield WTC’s 350,000 square feet. Much like the brand’s Boston and Dallas stores that opened this year, Dagnall Folger of Architecture + Information designed the Westfield retail location, which features vintage furniture pieces, curated by Edelman himself, pops of the brand’s signature green color, reclaimed wood and raw concrete materials and custom-designed fixtures.

“I was born and raised in New York and am proud to be opening our second Manhattan location as part of the exciting retail experience that Westfield is bringing to downtown. It’s another step towards the great revival of the World Trade Center,” said Sam Edelman, designer, founder and division president for the Sam Edelman division of Caleres.

The Turnbull & Asser store at Westfield serves as a sister location to the brand’s New York City flagship store that opened on 50 East 57th Street in 1997. The new store offers bespoke shirting, made-to-measure suiting, and ready-to-wear including handmade shirts, ties, pocket squares and sleepwear among others.

Turnbull & Asser also launched the Gatsby Shirt and Tie, as worn by Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby in the 1974 film The Great Gatsby, exclusively at the Westfield WTC store. The shirt and tie will be on display with a replica of Jay Gatsby’s pink suit. The combo joins the brand’s Legends Collection of recreated archival clothing from British figures and cinematic icons Winston Churchill, James Bond, Gordon Gekko and the Joker.

Finally, Kinetic Commerce is Kinetic Café and Aldo’s innovative experience that utilizes Kinetic’s Retail Innovation Lab. The Lab works with retailers to conceptualize, design, prototype, test and commercialize retail environments and experiences. Kinetic Commerce currently powers Aldo Connected Stores throughout North America and now operates a retail experience located next to Aldo in Westfield WTC.

Westfield World Trade Center was initially slated to open in March 2015, but it was pushed back to early 2016 and finally August 2016.
