Sears expands exclusive Jaclyn Smith line with Ready to Wear

Sears is fighting back against the retail apocalypse through the expansion of its Jaclyn Smith brand with a ready-to-wear line, named, straightforwardly enough, Jaclyn Smith Ready to Wear. In addition to knits and wovens, denim, and swim, jewelry and handbags will also be available online.

In a release, Greg Ladley, president of apparel and footwear at Sears Holdings stated "we look forward to building Jaclyn's current brands and extending her... reach and brand loyalty across the Sears community."

Jaclyn Smith Ready to Wear follows Spencer by Jaclyn Smith, a layette collection inspired by Smith's granddaughter.

Ladley noted that more than five million consumers have purchased Jaclyn Smith collection products in sister store Kmart over the past year, while the release also pointed out that 100 million women have purchased the former Charlie's Angel's apparel or accessories since the label launched over 30 years ago.

Awareness for the brand for women age 35-60 is 80 percent, making it a top recognized name, although Sears has not commented on the total value of the label.

The Jaclyn Smith Ready to Wear line may not, however, be enough to bail Sears out of its retail tailspin. As Neil Saunders, managing director of retail consultancy Global Next, told USA Today, "The problem is that no matter how good her collections are, they will be under the umbrella of a brand in decline.''

Jaclyn Smith Ready to Wear is affordably priced starting at $10. It is available now at select Sears as well as online.
