The consignment chain announced it will close all of its brick-and-mortar locations. The Massachusetts-based company announced just a year ago that it was launching an e-commerce sector.
2nd Time Around credits a difficult retail landscape with the cause for its mass closure. “Because of a convergence of market forces hitting all brick and mortar stores — including increased competition from online retailers combined with skyrocketing rents — we have made the difficult decision to close our stores,” the company said in a statement.
The consignment chain has locations throughout Massachusetts as well as in other Eastern states like Rhode Island and Vermont. It specializes in high-end second-hand items, facing stiff competition from fellow second-hand retailers like Vestiaire and The RealReal, the latter of which recently secured $50 million in funding.
However with 2nd Time Around’s stores closing so quickly, many consigners at the store are left confused as to what will happen to their payment. Many have taken to social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook and Yelp to leave negative comments about the company’s failure to pay them, with some already waiting for months for payment or credit for used items sold to the store.
Those seeking payment have been told to contact the Better Business Bureau, which has already awarded the retailer an F rating.
