In China, fashion weeks are seeking to become more international and authoritative. Competing with the fashion weeks in Beijing and Shenzhen, which signed an agreement with IMG in early 2015, Shanghai wants to play the designers and high fashion cards.

Shanghai has officially invited Pascal Morand, the Executive President of the French Federation of Fashion and of Ready-to-Wear Couturiers and Fashion Designers. The organisers had already signed agreements with the British Fashion Council and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), the Italian fashion chamber.

This time it will be mostly up to the Italians and the French to strike an agreement in the spirit of entente cordiale.  Carlo Capasa, the CNMI's President and his predecessor, Mario Boselli, will also be in Shanghai next April.

As Pascal Morand underlined to FashionMag, to invite simultaneously the French and Italian federations is not a neutral choice. The Shanghai Fashion Week will be held from 8th to 16th April. The programme will be very busy, with 60 shows and some fifteen presentations scheduled.  According to the organisers, independent Chinese designers will represent 60% of the total.
