Shop price inflation eases to 0.7 percent

LONDON (Reuters) - Annual shop price inflation eased to 0.7 percent in June from 1.3 percent in May -- its weakest since December, as food price inflation hit a 14-month low, British Retail Consortium data showed.

The BRC said on Wednesday 8 July shop prices rose 0.2 percent month-on-month in June, after a rise of 0.5 percent in May.

Annual food price inflation slowed to 5.6 percent in June from 6.4 percent in May and the lobby group said it was likely to keep falling as a recent rise in the pound had lowered the cost of imports and dented foreign demand for UK produce.

Annual non-food price inflation, meanwhile, remained in negative territory for the seventh month in a row, down 1.9 percent in June after May's 1.3 percent annual decline.
