Sibling confirms liquidation but could the label stage a comeback?

London-based designer brand Sibling has confirmed that it has gone into liquidation after nine years in business. The knit-and-daywear label said it has gone into voluntary liquidation and is winding down.

Founded in 2008 by Cozette McCreery, Joe Bates and Sid Bryan, the label has been run by McCreery and Bryan alone following Bates’ death in 2015. They are believed to have called in liquidators David Rubin & Partners.

Fashion Network spoke to McCreery shortly before London Fashion Week Men’s and she seemed upbeat about the event but did talk about the pressure son small brands.

Having decided to show a combined collection for a second time and step back from the women’s fashion week, she said the decision made good business sense as it showing at both was “a killer” for such a small studio and it reduced  “the expense of catwalk shows and presentations”.

She also said that the brand got “much more traction from press and social media at our menswear shows. That in turn pushes our women’s sales.”

The latest collection was well-received and featured a collaboration with personalised Portuguese footwear company Freakloset.

In a statement to Vogue, McCreery and Bryan had said that their brand was on hiatus, leading to speculation that the duo could make a comeback.
