The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History announced its Cosmetics and Personal Care Collections Digitization Project on May 11. With the ongoing support from skincare company Kiehl's, the project will culminate in an online catalogue of the Museum's collection of approximately 2,000 beauty and personal care products.
The collection examines how Americans have perceived connections between health and beauty for over a century. Kiehl's donated 11 newer products to the collection, including its Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner.
The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History Division of Medicine and Science documents the advances and changes made in health and wellness throughout American history. It has approximately 90,000 artifacts, including a collection of 2,000 personal care and beauty products.
Established in New York City in 1851, Kiehl's has been offering facial, hair and body care products for 165 years. The company’s pharmaceutical, herbal and medicinal formulas have been developed and passed on through generations.
