The famous designer, daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney, will design both the competition kit the clothes worn by athletes at the award ceremony and those paraded in the Olympic Village.

McCartney has signed a contract with Adidas; the first collaboration of its kind between such a well-known fashion designer and a sportswear company, reports The Times on Thursday.

"It's challenging working with athletes. The first thing is to ensure that nothing is produced that prevents them from doing their best, and therefore I had to work with highly technical fibres," explained the designer.

"I had to deal with unusual body shapes" she said. "So I am faced with challenges, a million of them. I'll have to see how the clothes look in front of TV cameras and ensure that the Athletes feel comfortable.”
