Target donates to flood victims to help repair communities

Published

Target has announced it will donate up to $400,000 to help communities rebuild from the Louisiana floods and has instituted a matching donation program to get employees to donate to the disaster relief efforts too.

Target has 6 stores in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in communities affected by the floods and over 1,000 affected employees.

Of the $400,000, $100,000 each will go to the Salvation Army and American Red Cross. Target is also donating relief funds to schools affected.

In the early days of flooding Target donated $100,000 of food to local food banks, and is working with local non-profits to distribute $20,000 of gift cards to help replenish necessary supplies lost in the flooding.

“Communities where we have a presence don’t just represent a store to Target; these communities are home to many of our team members and countless valued guests,” says Laysha Ward, chief corporate social responsibility officer, Target.

Ward continued, “We’re extremely proud of our team members’ efforts, not only as volunteers, but also in making sure our stores closest to the disaster areas are ready with needed supplies. We're honored to work with incredible partners like The American Red Cross and Salvation Army to provide relief and comfort during the response and recovery.”

Since its inception in 1946, Target has always donated 5% of its profits to charity which equates to over $4 million a week currently.
