Target is ditching its cartwheel perks rewards program after less than a year test run

Implemented just last year, Target is phasing out its Cartwheel Perks rewards program after test run in five markets including Denver, Houston, Raleigh-Durham, San Diego and St. Louis.

The Cartwheel perks program provided customers in the applicable markets with the opportunity to accumulate points through in-store purchases that could be redeemed for additional discounts in the future. Despite the fact that the points system proved to be unsuccessful, the original core of the Cartwheel app—digital coupons for in-store shoppers—isn’t going anywhere.

To avoid confusion and create a more seamless shopping process, the discount retailer is in the process of combining the main Target and Cartwheel apps, as well as adding enhancements such as store maps that pinpoint Cartwheel deals and a mobile payment option for anyone with a Target Redcard.
