Target announced on Monday that it is increasing its minimum hourly wage to $11, beginning this October, and it plans to increase the minimum hourly wage to $15 by the end of 2020.

The wage increases means pay increases for the retailer’s current team members, as well as the 100,000 seasonal team members that are currently being hired. Target announced this month that the 100,000 seasonal employees will work at its 1,816 stores in the US, and an additional 4,500 team members will be stationed at distribution centers and fulfillment facilities.

“Target has a long history of investing in our team members. We care about and value the more than 323,000 individuals who come together every day with an absolute commitment to serving our guest,” said Brian Cornell, CEO and chairman.

“We’ve always offered market-competitive wages to our team members. With this latest commitment, we’ll be providing even more meaningful pay, as well as the tools, training and support our team needs to build their skills, develop professionally and offer the service and expertise that set Target apart.”

Prior to this announcement, Target joined 800 companies that are calling for US legislation to protect immigrants brought into this country illegally by their parents from deportation. Other companies calling for legislation include Walmart and PepsiCo.
