Target will launch k-beauty section

Published
Jan 10, 2017

Starting late January, Target will be launching a k-beauty section in both its brick-and-mortar locations and on Target.com.

Mizon beauty products, one of the brands Target will stock - Peach and Lily

Target’s first foray into the Korean beauty market will be curated by Alicia Yoon, who founded Peach and Lily – an online Korean beauty retailer. Lagom, MISSHA, MIZON, Caolion, and Aprilskin will be some of the brands that will be available, and prices will range from $3.50 to $38.

Target’s not the first retailer to capitalize on the Korean beauty product trend. Opening Ceremony was one of the first retailers to emphasise k-beauty looks, stocking 27 Korean-imported products from 8 different brands in its online shop.

Late last week, Nordstrom announced that it would be opening a three-part pop-up shop focusing solely on Korean beauty and fashion brands. Nordstrom's first of three shops featured Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster, with more brands to be announced.

The Korean beauty industry has been poised for US expansion for a while now - in August, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety named South Korea the third biggest exporter of beauty products in the world, following just behind France and the United States.

South Korean beauty brands also boast an impressive turnaround time – it takes between 4-6 months to get a product from the planning stages to the market launch.

The new Korean offerings will hit Target shops and Target online on January 22nd.
