Net-A-Porter has launched its designer clearance site The Outnet in Japan with special Japanese content, a new payment method and delivery from a dedicated logistics centre in the country.

For Japanese consumers, the expansion means they will be able to purchase products in yen and benefit from the new ‘cash on delivery’ payment option, as well as enjoy access to dedicated Japanese content and newsletters. The update also includes registration and order forms based on a Japanese format, as well as push notifications.

Japan is the second largest luxury market in the world, with an estimated 3.6 trillion yen (approximately 28 billion euros) spent each year in luxury goods. The Asian country is, however, remarkably difficult to break into as Japanese customers often have different needs than Western shoppers.

To this end, The Outnet will soon add dedicated customer care consultants to its Japanese features, who will offer expertise including size and fit advice, product information, order enquiries and delivery status. Customers will receive “a new and improved user experience” including Live Chat in Japanese.

To celebrate the upcoming summer season, the new platform will feature a dedicated Vacation Shop with a curated edit of seasonal clothing from well-known brands. The fully shoppable onsite section will feature the designated monthly themes ‘Poolside’, ‘Road Trip’, ‘Global Traveler’ and ‘Summer in the City’.

Orders will be shipped directly from Italy to a dedicated local logistics centre in Japan, using both international and domestic shipping courier services, with orders received within 4-6 business days by express delivery.
