Uniqlo has confirmed that its first ever Resort collection, created by luxury designer Tomas Maier, will launch in stores and online in 19 markets from 17 May.

The full collection was also unveiled in full, revealing a series of relaxed tops and bright wide shorts for both men and women. The collection around the idea of ‘time off’ and ‘escape’ that has become the core proposition of Tomas Maier’s eponymous brand, translated into Uniqlo’s high-quality and comfortable design aesthetic.

Orange, yellow and other hues inspired by the sunsets in Florida prevail in the colour palette, as well as the brand’s iconic palm tree motif. There are also lavender accents, perhaps a nod to the colour of the year, and Uniqlo’s signature neutral colours.

“Our new collection is designed to work in many different ways. Beach attire can turn into lounge wear, casual cover-ups paired with polo shirts can easily be worn in town - this is the concept of my brand. Things work in many ways. Even if bought for a special trip or occasion the customer will soon discover these garments adapt to a year-round life,” commented Tomas Maier, who is also the creative designer of Italian luxury house Bottega Veneta.

The women’s collection line includes dresses, camisoles, a polo sweater and swimwear, while for men there is a range of jackets, T-shirts, polo shirts and easy pants that double as smart swimwear.

Yuki Katsuta, group senior vice president of Fast Retailing and head of global R&D at Uniqlo, commented: “I am sure people will love mixing and matching pieces from our first resort wear collection, adding a splash of summer fun to everyday living, weekends and vacation travel.”
