Tommy Hilfiger leaves Paris' Champs-Elysées
Tommy Hilfiger is sending out a strong signal: the brand will leave the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Hilfiger opened its 835 m² flagship store at number 65 on the renowned thoroughfare in November 2010. The US brand has now confirmed its departure to FashionMag, after it had been suggested last week on French daily paper Le Figaro.
The company has stated that the store's last day of business will be 30 September. Hilfiger's next-door neighbour, Nike, already has at its disposal an area of over 1,000 m², which was renovated in 2010. The US sports outfitter is expected to be the vacated premises' next tenant, therefore enjoying a significant expansion.
According to the PVH group, owner of Tommy Hilfiger, leaving the Champs-Elysées does not in any way imply abandoning the French market. "France is a key growth market for Tommy Hilfiger, and we will continue to invest in those distribution channels that allow us to reach and serve our local customers, explained Daniel Grider, Tommy Hilfiger's General Manager. To implement this strategy, we have opened a two-level store in boulevard des Capucines, Paris, in early 2015. That location continues to reach local customers, generating brand visibility on the French market. "
The label added in passing that it is evaluating other opportunities in Paris, in the context of this local strategy. It also stated it operates 33 stores in major French cities.
