Toronto Fashion Week recap

Published
Mar 21, 2016

Toronto Fashion Week came to a close on Friday, following 5 days of runway presentations at David Pecaut Square.

Though Monday night drew a serious crowd to see designs by Narces, Christopher Paunil and Sid Neigum, the event started on a slippery slope - literally. Several models, one after the other, tripped on what is suspected to be a wet runway, right in front of the photographer’s pit at the events first fashion show presented by Mikhael Kale. Woops! Fortunately, Mikhael Kale’s plastic pants is what really stole the show.

Some of the day two highlights included an anticipated Ellie Mae’s runway show following Sophie Trudeau’s white house sighting in the label. Montreal designer Marisa Minicucci deputed a new label – SOSKEN Studios – and impressed with a line of fashionable coats. The day ended with some bold and androgynous designs by the Montreal design duo behind UNTTLD. Their fall/winter 2016 collection was predominantly black and gold.

On Wednesday, the fun happened off-site at the Mackage show, where an amusing collection filled with fury leg warmers and leather overalls was presented.

On Thursday, it was Toronto designer, Hayley Elsasser’s vibrant prints which brought a full house to the tents of David Pecaut Square.

By Friday, surely fashion savvy Torontonians were exhausted, but the dresses by Stephan Caras were definitely worth the wait. Caras’ newest collection, inspired by the seduction, drama and sparkle of the night, attracted notable guests. The week then finished off with a show by Toronto Fashion Week favourite, Toronto-based label Greta Constantine, who received the Fashion Magazine award for Best Hair and Best Collection of the week.
