The Dutch consumer goods company Unilever announced on Monday that it has acquired the British cosmetics brand REN, which specialises in skincare products.

Unilever has not disclosed the financial details of the transaction, but the group nevertheless said that it expects the acquisition to close by May, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

REN Skincare "has an incredibly loyal following," said Unilever’s senior vice president Prestige Brands in the statement.

With all-natural products, REN Skincare has a high degree of potential for growth, "given that the naturals category is one of the fastest growing in skincare globally," she added.

REN Skincare is sold in 50 countries, particularly in pharmacies, according to Unilever.

Founded in 1930, Unilever is a global foods giant. It employs 173,000 people worldwide. The group sells products that include Lipton teas, Knorr soup, Bertolli olive oil, Rexona deodorant and Lux soaps.
