Uniqlo, the ready-to-wear brand owned by the Japanese group Fast Retailing, has announced the launch of a capsule collection for women inspired by shalwar kameez, the traditional dress of Bangladesh.
Available since April 20 in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan and since April 27 in Australia, Germany and the United States, the collection will arrive at the end of May in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
In France, customers will be able to find the collection on 4 May in Uniqlo’s store in the Marais neighborhood.
The collection consists of dresses, tunics, pants and scarves, all in a simple and traditional style reinterpreted by Uniqlo.
"Our goal was to combine the delicate embroidery, woven patterns and vibrant hues of the shalwar kameez with our signature simple lines, clean silhouettes and comfort," said LeAnn Nealz, Uniqlo’s chief creative officer for global design.
In terms of fabrics, the Japanese brand has opted for natural materials such as gauze and cotton, while maintaining its habitual price positioning, the pieces available for between 9.90 and 39.90 euros.
A portion of the profits from the collection, which will become available in all countries where Uniqlo is present, will be donated to international non-profit organization Business for Social Responsibility.
Through the capsule collection, the ready-to-wear brand aims to support educational programs for women working in the garment industry in Bangladesh - women representing the majority of employees in the sector in the country.
