Upper Canada Mall to get $60 million redevelopment
Feb 22, 2017
Upper Canada Mall located in Newmarket, Ontario, is about to get a $60 million facelift, Oxford Properties Group announced on Tuesday.
The redevelopment includes the introduction of a one-level, 64,000-square-foot Sport Chek location, a 40,000-square-foot first-to-market Food Market concept, a new two-level feature court space and a 35,000-square-foot vertical expansion, taking over the shopping center’s former Target space.
The new Sport Chek will replace the mall’s current much smaller store and it will be a concept store that will “focus on an enhanced overall customer experience,” Oxford Properties Group said in a news statement.
The sportswear and fitness equipment retailer has been opening stores with new retail innovations in recent years including an 80,000-square-foot flagship retail location that opened at CF Sherway Gardens in Ontario, and a 53,000-square-foot location that opened in downtown Vancouver, last year. No other new store openings have yet been announced.
Construction officially commenced earlier this month and the redevelopment is scheduled to open in 2018. Upper Canada Mall has over 200 stores and is managed by Oxford Properties Group.
