Premium British retailer Whistles has announced its first foray into menswear, with the launch of its first collection scheduled for autumn 2014. The news comes as the retailer also announced doubled earnings in the year to January 2013 at £3.4 million.

Whistles has put together a design team to work under the creative direction of Nick Passmore, design director at the chain. The collection will be sold online, in key Whistles stores and in a selection of premium department stores.

CEO Jane Sheperdson says: “Menswear is something that we have been planning to do since we started in 2008. We recognise that, as with womenswear there is considerable expansion in the contemporary middle market, this is an ideal time to capitalise on this opportunity and bring the Whistles aesthetic to menswear.”

The move comes as part of the Whistles expansion, which has seen the label successfully launch into prestigious department stores across the world, including Printemps in Paris and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong.
