& Other Stories has collaborated with Sonic Youth singer Kim Gordon. Inspired by her daughter Coco Gordon Moore when working on the collaborative project, the 90’s cult icon created unique graphic designs that give basic pieces an edge. The campaign is fronted by her daughter, who shows how easily the pieces can transform into different looks.

As Sonic Youth’s frontwoman, Kim Gordon became a grunge icon in the nineties and has remained a style influencer ever since. Gordon is also a visual artist and curator, having held solo exhibitions well before her music career took off.

Speaking about the collaboration, Caroline Björkholm, Head of Creative Lab & Other Stories, highlighted Gordon’s unwavering creativity and artistic integrity.  “We admire how she continuously makes her own rules rather than adapting to others’ expectations.”

“Dealing with the structured shapes of t-shirts and hoodies in this collection was almost like working with empty canvases. I decided to do pronouns because I like the idea of a word and the sense of drama surrounding it. Thinking of a word can create an atmosphere, and there’s a certain mystery about it,” added Kim Gordon.

"The screen printing makes the pieces feel more crafted and one-of-a-kind. Especially the abstract prints, they almost look tie-dyed, but more like art in a way. I like contrasts and when something unexpectedly is looking glam. Today, I think women can curate their environment by what they wear," says Kim Gordon.

The graphic concept builds on words like ‘her’, ‘there’, ‘the other’, ‘the shadow’, ‘the end’, and ‘morning mirror’. The US musician painted the hand-written words with metallic ink on rice paper, adding a bold element to the limited edition collection.

“The screen printing makes the pieces feel more crafted and one-of-a-kind. Especially the abstract prints, they almost look tie-dyed, but more like art in a way.  I like contrasts and when something unexpectedly is looking glam. Today, I think women can curate their environment by what they wear,” says Kim Gordon.

The range includes nine organic cotton pieces such as hoodies and t-shirts, five silk-screen scarves and two necklaces.

The collection launches on 31 August online and in stores.
