'Living Coral' could be Pantone's most beauty-friendly color of the year yet

Pantone has unveiled its ‘Color of the Year 2019', and the color authority institute has deemed ‘Living Coral' to be the next big thing.

"Vibrant, yet mellow Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment," the brand says, adding: "Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression."

Coral has been a persistent beauty trend on the catwalks this year -- and with good reason, as it is a color perfectly suited to wearing on the eyes, lips and cheeks. From Delpozo and Chromat to Emporio Armani, orange-infused makeup shades have brought life to runway makeup looks over the past two seasons.

Orange-hued lipstick has also been a firm red carpet favorite over the past few months, with Cate Blanchett, Sara Sampaio and Amber Valletta just some of the stars to succumb to the allure of a zesty, peachy lip. Eyeshadow and blusher have also seen something of a coral renaissance recently, with notable celebrity fans including Tracee Ellis Ross and Margot Robbie.

There is no doubt that the announcement of 'Living Coral' as the color of the year will lead to a slew of corresponding beauty launches, but the great thing about this shade is that there are already plenty of options on the market. Recently, Kylie Jenner launched a hot coral shade of liquid lip color dubbed ‘Queen,' while makeup mogul Lisa Eldridge's new lipstick trio includes a fiery orange shade that evokes the optimism and playfulness touched upon by Pantone. Yves Saint Laurent's holiday beauty collection for this year features creamy blushes in coral and fuchsia shades, while MAC Cosmetics' collaboration with Puma earlier this year featured a bright coral red lipstick dubbed ‘Lady Danger'.
