150 years of Canadian apparel pops up

Published
May 25, 2017

The Costume Museum of Canada, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, launched on Wednesday a pop-up exhibit showcasing what Canadians wore while marking the nation's birthday.

Baptized “A Day in the Life, 150 Years of Canadian Apparel”, the exhibition invites the public to parade through Canada's past through the display of Canadian apparel from confederation to the present day.

The pop-up exhibit will occur until May 28, 2017 at the Dalnavert Museum’s Visitor’s Centre, and will feature a selection of items from The Costume Museum of Canada’s collection of over 35,000 pieces of apparel.

As Canada marks its 150th birthday this year, the nation is seeing a number of exhibitions dedicated to Canadian apparel, as well as the people who wore and made it.

Earlier this month, Montreal’s Fashion Museum opened a new exhibition honouring the retailers, wholesale distributors and manufacturers that make up the city’s fashion industry.

Toronto’s Bata shoe museum equally opened an exhibition this month honouring Canadian talent by featuring the stories of Canada's Walk of Fame Inductees from the areas of film, music, science, art and athletics, as part of the museum’s Canada 150 celebrations.
