Toronto-based men’s wear brand 18 Waits has launched a limited series of raw denim weekender jackets created in collaboration with fellow Toronto-based artist Hieram.

Described as “wearable art” that can “hang on your wall or on your back”, the collection was launched during a gallery show called 'Changes: The Art of Bowie', on Thursday at 18 Waits' flagship store in Toronto.

The collection includes just eight pieces, which pay homage to the rock 'n' roll legend, David Bowie.

Different iconic Bowie imagery was painted on the back of the jackets by Hieram. Each piece was done by hand by the artist and are completely unique.

While the event was created as a space to celebrate Pride 2019 - considering Bowie’s sexually ambiguous, gender fluid, and androgynous rock star past - the event is also close to 18 Waits’s musical roots.

The brand name was in part inspired by the American singer Tom Waits, while its brand founder Dan Torjman has long considered himself a music junkie.
