Sep 8, 2016
Allbirds, the casual footwear brand, has secured $7.25 million in investment following a Series A round lead by venture capital firm Maveron.
Fellow seed investors participating in the round were Lerer Hippeau, Peterson Partners, Great Oaks VC, Red Sea Ventures and Slow Ventures. The latest capital raise follows a seed round in November 2015 where Allbirds received $2.8 million.
The New Zealand brand was founded in 2014 by Joey Zwillinger and Tim Brown, the former professional footballer.
The maker of eco-friendly, merino wool shoes plans to introduce a new style in its casual footwear line in 2017, as well as updating shoe colours in their existing popular style.
The shoes cost $95 and are available only on the Allbirds website with a temporary pop-up store in San Francisco.
