Amazon Handmade launches Gift Shop

Amazon is delivering a direct blow to Etsy with the announcement of its Handmade Gift Shop. Serving as a separate storefront, it stocks thousands of handcrafted items for special celebrations and milestones.

Categories include men's, women's, kids, baby, for couples, and last minute gifts that ship through Prime. Jewelry, lotions and personalized socks lead the women's assortment. Top men's items are personalized flasks and tie clips as well as customized BBQ sets.

Parents can order personalized storybooks for their children, clothes and nursery decorations for their babies. Coffee mugs, decor and jewelry are some of the items available through two day Prime shipping for the last minute category.

"The Handmade Gift Shop takes the stress out of shopping for gifts by providing thousands of one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts with the convenience and trust that customers already love about Amazon," said Katie Harnetiaux, Head of Marketing at Amazon Handmade. "Every item on Amazon Handmade has a story behind it."

Amazon Handmade launched in 2015. It has since expanded to ten categories including jewelry and home. It recently added a clothing and shoes category in addition to launching the Gift Shop.

The Handmade platform is open to customers in 30 countries. In an effort to harness Etsy customers who prefer to shop on a smaller scale than that traditionally represented by Amazon, customers are reminded that they are supporting local artisans when they shop through Amazon Handmade.
