Amazon creates 2000 new jobs for California's Inland Empire

Amazon has announced it will create 2,000 new full-time jobs in California at two new fulfillment centers in the Inland Empire cities of Eastvale and Redlands, CA.

Amazon already operates 9 California fulfillment centers and employs over 15,000 Californians in full-time roles.

Associates pick, pack and ship goods at the Amazon fulfillment centers. The 1 million square foot large Eastvale facility will house smaller sized items including books, toys and electronics. The Redlands facility has a 750,000 sq ft footprint and will fulfill larger goods like sporting equipment and patio furniture.

“2017 marks the five-year-anniversary of Amazon beginning to operate fulfillment centers in California,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North America Operations.

Chauhan further outlined the impact Amazon has on the California job market saying, “Within that time span, we’ve launched Career Choice, a program hundreds of Amazonian Californians have participated in to go back to school; we’ve supported the growth of hundreds of thousands of California businesses, authors, and developers that reach customers through Amazon.com, and we’ve continued to increase speed of delivery to customers throughout the state.”

1,000 jobs will go to each facility in the respective cities, representatives for both of which appear thrilled for this job growth.

Eastvale Mayor Joseph Tessari said, “Amazon has helped revitalize the Inland Empire and we are excited to see its growth in Eastvale."

Redlands Mayor Paul Foster echoed that sentiment saying "We are thrilled Amazon has found such a strong workforce here in Redlands, in San Bernardino County, and in the IE, and we look forward to our ongoing, collective success."

That success includes many desirable benefits for full-time Amazon employees. Those benefits include 401(k) contribution, stock awards, healthcare benefits, maternity and paternity leave and the Career Choice program where the company will pre-pay up to 95% of tuition in on-demand fields even if they are not directly related to the employee's current job.

In addition to the two new centers in the IE, the company has announced plans for opening an additional fulfillment center in Sacramento this year.
