Amazon was the online destination for approximately 87% of holiday comparison shoppers this year, with another 73% purchasing gifts from the massive e-tailer. BloomReach surveyed about 3,000 U.S. consumers about their holiday shopping preferences, with a large majority heading to Amazon to find gifts, compare prices and make purchases.
Both lower prices and ease of purchase drove traffic to Amazon from and away from brick and mortar retailers. When BloomReach asked Amazon shoppers why they prefer Amazon above other retailers, 33% cited the site’s lower prices. But the buck doesn’t stop there. Another 43% pointed to Amazon’s ability to intuitively find or predict what they want quickly, saving them time and energy.” The price for consumers these days is time, the one thing we cannot make more of. There is also some consumer fatigue and mistrust that retailers aren’t offering their best prices anyway,” said BloomReach Head of Marketing and Partnerships Joelle Kaufman.
Established in 2009, BloomReach is a leader in data analytics for retailers. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, CA, with offices worldwide, and is backed by investment firms Bain Capital Venture, NEA and Lightspeed Ventures. BloomReach customers have included Neiman Marcus, Williams-Sonoma, Staples and Drugstore.com among others.
