Amazon announced on Monday plans to open its first fulfillment center in Colorado in Aurora. The one million-square-foot facility is expected to create over 1,000 new jobs, which will be in addition to the hundreds of Amazon employees at the company’s sortation center in the city.

Much like the Amazon employees at the company’s other fulfillment centers, employees at the Aurora center will pick, pack and ship larger customer items, including sports equipment, musical instruments, and furniture.

In addition, the new jobs created by Amazon in Aurora will pay 30% higher than traditional retail jobs, and according to Akash Chauhan, Amazon VP of North America Operations, employees will receive benefits on their first day of employment.

The Colorado fulfillment center announcement follows the company’s announcement that it would open its ninth Texas fulfillment center. The new center will be located in Coppell, which will mark as the third center to open in the city.

“This building will be a new addition to the Amazon Robotics fulfillment network, which already has a robust presence in the metroplex,” said Chauhan. “Because of our ability to have more inventory on-hand and increased speed of fulfillment, we are able to better meet customer demand and create thousands of associate roles, which receive competitive wages and benefits. We are proud of our ability to create jobs, spur innovation and provide excellent Prime service to members.”

To date, Amazon operates seven Texas fulfillment centers in Dallas, Fort Worth, Schertz, San Marcos, Haslet, and two centers in Coppell.
