Arc’teryx opens its first California store in Palo Alto

The Canadian outdoor retailer opened its first California outpost at Palo Alto’s Stanford Shopping Center. The new 2,300 square foot store took inspiration from the local scenery in its design.

Arc’teryx’s first California store had its grand opening on Saturday and awarded the first 50 customers in the door with a gift bag. Customers were also able to engage with Arc’teryx design representatives and participate in demonstrations using the brand’s gear.

“We have large outdoor consumer base in the region whom we have previously only been able to interact with via our on-line and wholesale channels. We heard the request for more one-to-one experiences and responded with a push to open more fully branded stores in the region this year,” Stephanie Jamison, global retail marketing manager of Arc’teryx, said in a statement.

The new Palo Alto location used Yosemite as inspiration for the store’s look. The façade is inspired by the national park’s iconic El Capitan rock formation, and utilizes zinc and granite details.

Arc’teryx was founded in 1989 in Vancouver. It currently has 32 stores around the world, including a number of other locations in American cities such as Portland, Denver and Chicago. Its line of high-performance outdoor gear is also carried in retailers like REI and Nordstrom. The company is also in the process of opening a 3,200-square-foot store in Vancouver, its largest location in Canada.
