The fashion community of Austin, Texas is getting a boost with the opening of Austin Community College’s Fashion Incubator.

The incubator, which opened on April 30, was partially funded by the City of Austin and provides access to career-technical training and design technology for those interested in pursuing a career in fashion.

Located on Highland Campus at 6101 Highland Campus Drive, the 7,500-square-foot facility is available to both students in the community college’s associate degree program in fashion marketing and to members of the local fashion industry. Those who take advantage of the incubator can access residency programs, transferable credits, leasable space, and more.

In the future, the facility will also become available to the college’s associate degree program in fashion design, set to launch in the school’s upcoming fall semester.

“The Fashion Incubator offers a variety of courses designed to sharpen your skills, strengthen your resumé, and keep Austin’s fashion industry booming,” the college said on their website. “Whether you are a design veteran or just starting out, we can help take your career to the next level.”

According to a report by Austin-based economic analysis and public policy consulting firm TXP Inc., Austin’s fashion industry created 1,300 jobs and contributed $86 million to the city in 2014.
