Balmain Beauty names Hans Dorsinville as creative director

US cosmetics group Estée Lauder (owner among others of Tom Ford Beauty, Le Labo and M.A.C.) is building a new team for its recently acquired Balmain Beauty licence, whose first products aren’t expected to be launched before autumn 2024. After promoting Guillaume Jesel to global president of Balmain Beauty (and Tom Ford Beauty) and Nathalie Berger Duquene to global managing director, the group has named Hans Dorsinville as Balmain Beauty's creative director.

Dorsinville was previously the chief creative officer of New York advertising agency Gotham, specialised in the beauty and fashion sectors, working for names like Essie, Maybelline and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He is a graduate of New York's Parsons School of Design and began his career in 1993 at Donna Karan. At the US fashion label, where he stayed for seven years, Dorsinville held the role of vice-president of the internal design agency. In 2001, he joined creative agency Laird+Partners as partner, executive vice-president and senior creative director, and worked on campaigns for Estée Lauder, Coty and Bottega Veneta. In 2017, after 16 years at Laird+Partners, he was appointed chief creative officer at independent advertising agency Select World.
 
Dorsinville is especially committed to promoting inclusion, as he did with the “I Am No Angel” campaign developed for plus-size fashion brand Lane Bryant in 2015. He is also the founder of the Creative Coalition for Diversity, an initiative that aims to foster diversity in the creative industry and increase the visibility of young people of colour in their career growth.

A dedication Dorsinville shares with Olivier Rousteing, Balmain's creative director for the last 12 years, who has notably opened the label’s shows to the general public, infusing a much more cosmopolitan vibe into the Parisian label founded in 1945.

As a reminder, on September 26 2022, two days before the runway show for Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, Estée Lauder announced the signing of a license deal for the development, design and distribution of Balmain’s beauty line. Two months later, the US group also announced the acquisition of the Tom Ford label, whose beauty products Estée Lauder has been producing since 2006. In Q1 of fiscal 2022-23, the Estée Lauder group recorded a revenue of $4.39 billion (€4.44 billion).
