Belstaff and McLaren link for luxe capsule collection

Published
Nov 6, 2018

Belstaff is continuing its comeback under its new owner and on Tuesday announced that it has collaborated with McLaren Automotive to create a “unique capsule collection combining design, innovation and pioneering technology from two modern British brands.”

Belstaff

It’s a good move for the label as it takes Belstaff’s speed and motoring heritage and links it with a brand that’s also associated with speed, as well as luxury, precision and engineering.

“Every detail and decision within the design process was carefully considered incorporating the key McLaren design pillar ‘everything for a reason’,” the company said. “McLaren brings a distinct design DNA, knowledge of lightweight and performance materials and engineering techniques garnered from over 50 years of racing and automotive experience.”

It added that Belstaff’s purpose for nearly a century “has been to provide innovative, functional outfitting for generations of pioneers. This collection combines the two brands’ design ethos, ensuring a luxurious, modern yet subtle and timeless aesthetic.”

The limited edition collection includes 10 men’s pieces such as an all-season tri-layer outerwear and gilet, lightweight stretch nylon outerwear, a performance leather jacket, suiting, shirting and layering options, “creating the optimum weekend capsule.” And there are also three women’s outerwear pieces, with an all-season tri-layer lightweight stretch nylon driving jacket and parka, and a performance leather jacket style. They’ve been designed with “ergonomic seam lines and innovative stretch fabrics [to] allow for full range of movement for a lifestyle at the wheel and beyond the car.”

McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt said the luxury auto brand’s design language “is just as relevant when applied to the development of products in other industries and we have been looking for the right partners to interpret the thoughts of Rob Melville, Design Director, and his team to bring this philosophy to life. Both Belstaff and McLaren Automotive share the same values and the synergy between both brands has resulted in a collection which has a look and feel similar to that which you would expect from McLaren.”

The collection launched on Tuesday in the UK, Europe and US with Asia launching in early 2019. It’s available from Belstaff global stores, online, with select retail partners and at select McLaren Automotive Dealerships.
