Bentley Leathers to restructure, close stores

Published

Canadian retailer Bentley Leathers Inc. announced last week plans to close some stores as it restructures its operations.

“The changing consumer behavior, the impact of the digital disruptions combined with operating over 250 stores across the nation have significantly impacted the profitability of the company,” Bentley said in a news statement.

Bentley failed to announce how many stores it will close. The company said is currently analyzing individual store performance and will close less profitable stores, while planning to keep the majority of its stores open.

Bentley management said it is confident the new plan will “better position the company moving forward.”

The news comes just a month after the Montreal-based retailer specialized in luggage and everyday purses, back packs and business bags, opened the first of three new concept stores.

The new concept store opened in Fairview Pointe-Claire shopping centre in Montreal Quebec on October 24, 2019.

The new store design was created to simplify the shopping experience with new “moment zones” including travel and day-to-day.

Bentley has also reduced the number of brands it carries, to focus on a more curated assortment that is relevant and in line with brand standards. The comapny is also investing in the growth of its own brands with innovative new designs including eco-conscious options, standardized anti-theft features, timeless contemporary collections, and new relevant partnerships.

Moreover, the company plans to start a new community program and is revamping its website before the end of the year.

“Management is confident that the business will be successful in its reorganization to the benefit of all stakeholders. Black Friday is going ahead as normal and it is business as usual moving forward,” the company concluded.

Founded in 1987 in St. John's, N.L, Bentley plans to transform the brand into a solution and experience company.
