Danish fashion retail giant Bestseller is shuttering its Bestseller branded stores in Canada.

The family-owned business has shut its five Canadian stores, after entering the country in 2015.

The parent company of brands like Jack & JonesVero Moda, Noisy May, and Only, confirmed to FashionNetwork.com via email this week that it was focusing more on growing its retail brands, Jack & Jones and Vero Moda, as well as its e-commerce experience at bestsellerclothing.ca.

The brand will continue to operate a growing number of Jack & Jones and Vero Moda stores throughout the country.

At the end of 2019, the group announced climbing sales, but still hinted at the fact that it needed to continue to innovate digitally.

“Now, more than ever, we need to accelerate our journey towards a sustainable reality and a truly digital future. This is key to the continued development of our company”, Bestseller said, in a news statement during its end of year results, in December.

Canada was the first international market for Bestseller, which carried its roster of designer brands for both men and women.

It operated a large format store - nearly 7,400 square feet - at CF Carrefour Laval, located just off the island of Montreal. It also operated several other locations in and around Montreal, across Quebec, including at Montreal’s CF Galleries d’Anjou and at Place Ste-Foy in Quebec city.

It equally opened its first store outside of Quebec at CF Polo Park in Winnipeg, which has since been rebranded as ‘Jack & Jones’. Its four stores in Montreal are now closed.

Bestseller had previously announced plans to open up to twelve stores in Canada.

The company operates 2,750 stores in 38 markets worldwide and can be found in as many as 20,000 multi-brand and department stores.
