Birdwell Beach Britches announced last week that it has opened its first ever standalone retail location at 1300 Highland Street in Manhattan Beach, California.

Birdwell’s Creative Director, Natas Kaupas, designed the Manhattan Beach store, which features modern and vintage photographs of Southern California, salvage art by Hawaiian bodysurfer Mark Cunningham, a one-of-a-kind monoprint by Russell Crotty, a rare Joel Tudor/Barry McGee surfboard collaboration created for the surf film, Sprout, and the brand’s first-ever pair of board shorts on display. The 300-square-foot store carries the brand’s new men’s and women’s board shorts, its nylon surf competition jackets and surfboard wax.
The Manhattan Beach store is the first Birdwell standalone store to open and it joins the brand’s factory store on Santa Ana.
Carrie Birdwell Mann founded Birdwell Beach Britches in 1961, and became one of the first businesses to specialize in surf wear.
