Shockwaves were sent through the menswear community with the announcements of Details Magazine and Four Pins shutting down. The closures put a large number of free agents on the market, and Bloomingdale’s announced the first major hire since then on Thursday with the appointment of Justin Berkowitz as Men’s Fashion Director. The appointment was first rumored by the American media in December 2015.
Berkowitz, who served as Senior Fashion Market Editor for Details Magazine from August 2011 to December 2015, took an obscure approach to announcing that he had been appointed to the position. He posted a photo via social media of his Bloomingdale’s business cards with the caption, “First day.” Prior to serving four years at Details, he held the position of Associate Market Editor at Marie Claire and Fashion Assistant at Teen Vogue.
Berkowitz replaces Josh Peskowitz as Men’s Fashion Director, a position that Peskowitz held from March 2012 to December 2015. Berkowitz, Peskowitz and Bruce Pask, who worked at the New York Times before heading to Bergdorf Goodman, have all held several editor positions before making the leap to luxury retail.
