Already popular in South America, Brazilian eyewear brand Absurda makes its debut in the United States this week.
Absurda launched in 2009 with sunglasses and prescription frames for men and women and developed a following among South American celebrities and influencers. The brand has always kept its focus global however. Though based in Brazil, Absurda has produced its eyewear around the world for years, manufacturing its wares in countries such as Italy, Cambodia and Taiwan. The brand’s international approach is reflected in the names of its styles, which reference neighborhoods from major cities such as Hackney Wick and La Condesa.
With the launch of its American website and a Miami office, Absurda’s sunglasses and eyeglasses are now available in the United States. Most of the brand’s prices hover around $100, with its Harlem sunglasses retailing for $165 and its East Austin eyeglasses selling for $95. The brand’s offerings include trendy shapes such as rectangular frames and exaggerated cat eyes.
Like American eyewear brand Warby Parker, Absurda offers its customers a try-before-you-buy option. The Brazilian brand’s “Pick’n Taste” option lets shoppers try out up to four styles for five business days before purchasing for no charge. Absurda also extends a one-year warranty to all of its pairs.
