Browns names BFC as latest guest editor of A Family Affair

Farfetch-owned luxury retailer Browns has announced the British Fashion Council as the second ‘guest editor’ of its new A Family Affair content and community project.

The company said the latest edition is “celebrating the bonds that matter and spotlighting Newgen designers”.

The BFC  takes over for the second edition of the initiative and is focusing on 12 designers from the BFC Newgen cohort, of which Browns has been an ongoing supporter.

Over a two-week period, Browns and BFC are working in collaboration with Supriya Lele, Richard Quinn, Alighieri, Asai, Eftychia, Halpern, Priya Ahluwalia, Paria Farzaneh, Nicholas Daley, Bethany Williams, Stefan Cooke and A* Cold Wall. All will be celebrated with commissioned content released via Brownsfashion.com and Browns social media platforms “exploring their design, identity, inspiration and beyond”.

Examples of the content include menswear designer Paria Farzaneh exploring her Iranian identity within her work in a ‘show and tell’ where she shines a light on her fabric-making and process. Meanwhile, Nicholas Daley will show us his musical inspirations alongside girlfriend Nabihah Iqbal. Stefan Cooke and A* Cold Wall will give us insight into their creative processes through conversations with their long-time contributors Nake Burt and Wilson Oryema. And Bethany Williams “gets creative with her take on a cooking tutorial”.

That latter contribution reflects the fact that many brands are including subjects such as cookery in their initiatives as they reach out to consumers who are unlikely to be as focused on pure fashion as usual at present.

Tyler Psarras, Brand Engagement Director of Browns, said: “We have big love for next-generation talent – it’s the foundation Browns was built on 50 years ago and it remains one of our core pillars to this day.

“Our mission with A Family Affair has been to spread positivity, promote connectivity and support our creative network – that is the essence of building our global community and we cannot wait to see what our very cool line-up of next-gen talent will produce for series two.”

BFC chief Caroline Rush added that “now, more than ever, collaboration is essential and we need to come together to support each other. I hope that this week’s content will bring a sense of community and engagement and look forward to discovering the stories and amazing creativity that the designers have to offer.”
