Burberry announces new partnerships to celebrate Pride Month

Published

Burberry has made undisclosed donations to three charitable LGBTQ+ organisations in support of Pride Month.

The British fashion brand said the new partnerships will also give it access to resources and expertise to make the business more inclusive.

The initiative supports UK Black Pride, Stonewall and the brand’s long-standing charity partner the Albert Kennedy Trust.

UK Black Pride is Europe’s largest celebration for LGBTQ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent. In addition to a donation, Burberry will work together with the organisation to develop advocacy and inclusion initiatives for the company and beyond.

Stonewall, Britain’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality, has also received a donation. Additionally, Burberry has become the first luxury fashion brand to join its Global Diversity Champions programme, which gives firms the tools they need to take a strategic and structured approach to LGBT equality initiatives.

Finally, Burberry is continuing its long-standing support of the Albert Kennedy Trust, the UK’s national LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity. The brand has been supporting AKT for over three years, with its donation going towards the charity’s Covid-19 relief fund.

The donations build on Burberry’s ongoing support for the global LGBTQ+ community. The retailer was one of the earliest adopters of the UN Standards of Conduct for Business, designed to eliminate LGBTI discrimination in the workplace and beyond. And Christopher Bailey’s last Burberry show in Fall 2018 introduced a rainbow tartan in a nod to the brand’s dedication to LGBTQ+ youth.
