Burberry bolsters its senior management team

Steve Sacks has joined Burberry to which he brings his experience as director of customer strategy and insight at McKinsey & Company.
The new senior vice president’s position was created by Burberry in order to optimise its customer data. “Steve will direct the development of a dedicated team, systems and processes to develop insights into these physical and digital interactions, enabling further understanding of customer behaviour and creating a platform from which to drive future growth across the company,” according to Burberry’s official statement.

Burberry continues to focus on the potential of technology and e-commerce. John Douglas, Burberry’s chief information officer, has been named chief technology officer. In this new role, he will report directly to the retailer’s chief executive, Angela Ahrendts. Having joined in 2006, Douglas has created a world-class technology infrastructure for the British brand using SAP. He also promised the development of a web platform for broadcasts of fashion shows, live and in 3D. According to the brand, his efforts have "enhanced its e-commerce in 46 countries and six languages." He will now be responsible for coordinating all aspects of technology within the company.
Burberry, which has 187 retail stores, 210 distributors, 44 outlets and 52 franchised stores, recorded a growth of 30% in its sales for the first half ending on September 30.
