Burberry makes the grade in Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

Published
Jan 28, 2021

In a boost to broadening its ethical status, Burberry has been recognised by the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) for the first time.

The UK-based luxury fashion house said the recognition endorses its “continued commitment to fostering equity and inclusion, both within our own organisation and across communities we work with globally”.

Inclusion in the GEI acknowledges transparency to gender-related practices and policies at publicly listed companies, increasing the breadth of environmental, social, governance (ESG) data available to investors.

It also measures a company’s commitment to gender equality in the categories of female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies and pro-women brand.

The latest association will be an important addition to Burberry’s ethical credentials as the business continues to expand efforts to uphold values across ecology, sustainability and working practices. Given that its target global consumer is young, such recognition is essential for the company’s values being seen to align with those of its customers.

Erica Bourne, chief people officer at Burberry said: “Burberry’s inclusion in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index demonstrates the positive impact our programmes and policies are having on driving change across our business and our communities globally.

“We are committed to building on this, continuing to disclose our progress against key measures, while challenging ourselves to find new ways to create a more equitable and inclusive future”.
