Burberry unveils Tisci's AW19 pre-collection, continues SS19 themes

Burberry has unveiled its autumn/winter 2019 pre-collection and with all eyes on anything that is put out by Riccardo Tisci at the moment, it’s likely to grab plenty of attention.

Burberry

“I wanted this collection to be a continuation of the story I began to tell in September with my debut Burberry collection,” Tisci said on Thursday. The product will be available from May and underlines the house’s nuanced approach to both seasonal and see-now-buy-now collections. This sees it balancing both to create buzz while also creating a core offer that won’t generate a buy-now-or-you-miss-it frenzy.

“I’m focusing on establishing our codes through archive prints, house colours, and iconic outerwear, while cementing the new themes I set out last season including the Thomas Burberry Monogram, eveningwear and tailoring,” Tisci added.

As mentioned, there’s a strong feeling of continuity linking to the runway collection that was one of Fashion Month’s hottest tickets in September. It’s a “collection of contrasts and contradictions, which unpacks the wardrobe of the lady and the girl, the gentleman and the boy, as well as an evolving eveningwear offering through a contemporary British lens,” we’re told.

Tisci has continued to reference Burberry’s past through archive prints and explores the outerwear styles for which it’s known “while at the same time heralding the future of the house.”

In practice, that means a selection of both casual and formal pieces, traditional items and the streetwear elements that can’t ignored.

The outerwear comes in "new proportions and fabrications for both men and women,” with details including leather and shearling patchwork, ring-snap fastenings, micro metal rings and studs. There is a focus on trench coats, downs and quilts, which is no surprise as this is both an area in which the brand specialises and which is particularly popular right now.

One element that’s very prominent is that Burberry is tapping into the logo trend with gusto as the brand name comes emblazoned across sweats, bags, socks and more with either the TB (for Thomas Burberry) monogram or the words Burberry London England standing out in black against a white background.
