CFDA to televise Fashion Awards for the first time ever

The CFDA announced last week the nominees and honorees for the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards. And this weekend the organization announced that the awards ceremony will be broadcast live on television for the first time.

The CFDA Awards

In partnership with The Weinstein Company, the broadcast will feature the awards ceremony preceded by red carpet arrivals. Weinstein and Patrick Reardon of The Weinstein Company and Steven Kolb of the CFDA will serve as Executive Producers, Sergio Alfaro of Eclipse Television will serve as producer of the broadcast, KCD will produce the event, and Laird + Partners will produce the annual journal as well as art direct the nominee packages.

“CFDA spotlights the best-of-the-best of the fashion industry,” said Harvey Weinstein, TWC Co-Chairman.  “We’re thrilled to join Diane von Furstenberg, Steven Kolb and the entire CFDA team in bringing the work of the world’s top, most cutting-edge designers off the runways and to TV audiences.”

The CFDA Board of Directors chaired by Diane von Furstenberg made the decision to televise the awards. The Board, von Furstenberg and Kolb, “agreed that it was time to further elevate the CFDA Fashion Awards and bring them to the wider audience on television. By partnering with The Weinstein Company, we can make this a reality while also furthering the CFDA mission to strengthen the impact of American Fashion worldwide.”

The live broadcast will be the first for the awards ceremony, but not the first for the CFDA. In February, Amazon launched a television show for the organization’s 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. The 10-episode season is available for Amazon customers in the US.

The 2016 CFDA Awards, in collaboration with Swarovski for the 15th consecutive year, will be held on June 6th at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
