Canada Goose launches second parka collection with Inuit designers

Published
Jan 19, 2020

Canada Goose, the Toronto-based brand famous for its outdoor apparel designed for extreme weather conditions, unveiled on Friday the second iteration of Project Atigi featuring a collection of hand-crafted parkas by Inuit designers.

Canada Goose launches its latest Project Atigi collection of hand-made parkas created by 18 Inuit designers from across Inuit Nunangat. - Canada Goose

The 90-piece collection for men and women, launching January 23, was created by 18 Inuit designers from 12 communities across Inuit Nunangat in Northern Canada.

Each designer was commissioned to create a collection of five jackets, which reflect their heritage, communities, and artisanship.

The collection builds on the success of Project Atigi, a social entrepreneurship program first established in 2019, that celebrates the expertise and the rich heritage of craftsmanship established by the Inuit community.

"Project Atigi was born in the North, created by the North and for the North," explained Dani Reiss, president & CEO, Canada Goose, in a news statement.

"We're leveraging our global platform to share Inuit craftsmanship with the world and to create social entrepreneurship opportunities in the communities that inspire us. When you purchase a Project Atigi parka, you're making an investment in the place and people that shape them.”

Proceeds from the sales of the Project Atigi collection will benefit Inuit communities across Canada through a partnership with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), the national Inuit representational organization that works with the four Inuit regions of Inuit Nunangat.

Canada Goose expects to double last year's contribution.

The collection will be showcased in select Canada Goose stores across North America and Europe, and available for purchase on canadagoose.com.

Canada Goose has been in expansion mode since going public in 2017, venturing into retail and expanding into new product categories.

The outerwear giant has done a number of collaborations including, most recently, a capsule collection with Korean label Juun.J, as well as a winter collaboration with Boston-based streetwear label Concepts.

Today the company has over 20 brand retail locations with stores in London, New York, Boston, Chicago, Calgary and Tokyo, among others.
