Canada Goose launches next-generation, sustainable fleece

Canada goose will introduce on Thursday the brand’s next-generation fleece, made of recycled wool and bio-based fibres, dubbed 'Kind Fleece'.

Kind Fleece is an ultra-soft and breathable fabric made with 62% recycled wool; 18% wood-based Tencel Lyocell, a biodegradable fibre made from wood; and 13% bio-based Sorona Polymer, a plant-based polymer made from the sugar derived from corn. 

The sustainable fabric will make its debut with four new styles including the Women’s Chilliwack Fleece Bomber, Women’s Severn ½ Zip Sweater, Men’s Lawson Fleece Jacket and Men’s Mersey Fleece Vest. The collection embodies cozy comfort and versatility, and is available in three colourways, designed to be layered and worn year-round in varied weather.

The release coincides with the publication of its 2021 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, which details the commitments the brand has made, fulfilled and is on track to achieve, focusing specifically on materials, chemicals, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, supply chain, human and labour rights; and people, including diversity and inclusion.

In particular, when it comes to materials, Canada Goose’s Sustainable Impact Strategy highlights its new certification under the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), received in November 2021.

It also highlights how Canada Goose ended the purchasing of fur at the end of 2021 and will cease manufacturing with fur by the end of 2022. It has equally transitioned over 20% of its materials to Preferred Fibres and Materials (PFMs); on track to meet its 2025 goal of 90% PFMs. 

Moreover, the brand’s bluesign certification commitment is nearly complete and it has transitioned almost 60% of its packaging to more sustainable solutions. Canada Goose is also committed to discontinuing the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in its Arctic Tech fabric, redeveloping this proprietary fabric by the end of 2023.

In terms of manufacturing, the brand remains committed to its aggressive and paramount goal of achieving net zero scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 or sooner, and it has once again achieved carbon neutrality for company operations.

The release of the 2021 report and unveiling of Kind Fleece builds upon Canada Goose’s purpose platform, Humanature, which unites its sustainability and values-based initiatives.
