The Toronto-based company announced earlier this month that it will close its retail operations in 2019 including its remaining 24 stores located across Ontario.

The multi-brand retailer, which stocks brands like Guess, Buffalo David Bitton, Levi's, and Jack and Jones, has been feeling the pressure from increased competition in Canada. New retail chains like Nordstrom and Uniqlo have taken up room specifically in the denim space since entering the Canadian market in recent years.

After filing for bankruptcy protection in January 2017, Jean Machine was acquired by Pacific West Commercial Corporation, an affiliate of Vancouver-based Stern Partners Inc.

At the time, a turnaround plan was set into action, which included renovating stores and targeting a more mature clientele.

"We are excited about the long-term potential of Jean Machine and the denim and casual apparel market in Canada," said Ronald N. Stern, President of Stern Partners, back in March 2017.

"We are confident in the underlying business and believe that, with Jean Machine's liquidity issues behind it, the business is well-positioned for success.”

The retailer will operate throughout the holiday season with 20 of its 24 stores closing their doors on January 31, 2019, while the remaining four will close as of February 28. 2019.

Meanwhile, its e-commerce business will continue to operate. No official online store closure date has been announced.
