Canadian jewellery and accessory brand Caroline Neron has filed for bankruptcy protection as it prepares to close stores and cut staff.
The Quebec-based company will close nine of its 14 locations, and will off 64 of its 152 employees, working both in-store and at its Montreal headquarters.
Still, Neron, a Quebec businesswoman, actress and singer, who founded her namesake brand in 2004, said she’s committed to maintaining the brand's online presence and plans to expand its distribution network in Canada and internationally.
Over the years, she has launched a number of collections including a capsule collection with francophone singer Eric Lapointe and has partnered with the Quebec Cancer foundation. She’s also had stars like most recently, Mila Kunis, wear her designs.
Her empire includes jewellery for men and women, as well as handbags, sunglasses, cosmetics and fragrances.
Until December, she was also a head entrepreneur on the French-Canadian show Dans l’oeil du dragon (the French-Canadian equivalent of Shark Tank) where she offered business advice to start-up companies, making her downfall all the more critical.
